What does it take to be a stock trader? It takes a total mentalcommitment to the task. It becomes a complete way of life. You cannot be apart timer. You cannot work at a regular job and trade stocks successfully. When you decide to make your living this way you must be willing to work365 days a year, 7 days each week, 24 hours every day with no time off. Iknow.
How do I know? As an exchange member for 17 years and a floor traderI can personally tell you there is no time off. Never. Almost every wakingmoment is given to thinking about your current positions. Where should Isell? Should I move my stop up a little more? There are 3 more trades I'dlike to make, but I need to save some extra cash in case I need it for amargin call. It is hard to pass up a trade that looks as good as XYZ, but Ihave to maintain my trading discipline. And so much more.
These are just a few of the thoughts that run through your head.
Youare constantly being torn by the natural enemies of fear and greed, yet youmust hold your equilibrium to try to make dispassionate decisions. The firstlaw of trading is to protect your capital so that any single trade will not haveyou going home broke.
If you are working a regular job or you own a business you cannot bea trader. One or the other or both of these pursuits will suffer. When Iowned my brokerage company I did not make one single trade for 8 yearsbecause I understood the commitment necessary to be a successful trader.
Why am I telling you all this? Because I don't want you to lose yourmoney in the market as so many people do and I especially don't want you tothink you can be a day trader. You can still make money in the market andbeat 90% of the Wall Street experts. Here's how.
First you must learn that you CAN time the market even though yourbroker and all those "experts" will tell you that you can't. There areseveral good timing advisory services that you may subscribe to or you candevelop you own method.
Second, don't believe all that horsewash about research. That isWall Street smoke and mirrors. Don't try to pick individual stocks. Stick tono-load mutual funds with a discount broker and buy only the best performingfunds during the past 6 and 12 months. When they quit being in the top 1%sell them and find new ones that are going up.
There isn't enough space here to give you the details, but I want you torealize that you can safely make plenty of money in the market without devoting 365/7/24.
Al Thomas' book, "If It Doesn't Go Up, Don't BuyIt!" has helped thousands of people make moneyand keep their profits with his simple 2-stepmethod. Read the first chapter athttp://www.mutualfundmagic.com and discover why he's the man that Wall Streetdoes not want you to know.

The Problem With Hedge Funds
Are hedge funds a suitable investment for you? Hedge funds are an appropriate investment for qualified purchasers with a net worth above one million dollars and an annual income exceeding two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Purchasers are often required to sign an acknowledgement confirming their qualifications to invest in hedge funds. However, just because one is qualified to invest in a hedge fund doesn't necessarily mean they should do so. There is a major problem with this type of investment. Oftentimes, the risk associate...(related: Stocks)

Valuation
Every day I hear from the "experts" on CNBC-TV and the radio gurus that the way to buy stocks is find value. One man's Rembrandt is another man's connect-the-dots and fill in the spaces. Valuation is like beauty. It is in the mind of the beholder. If valuation is the key to buying stocks then there should be some kind of a formula to determine what is undervalued and over-valued. In every industry there are formulas for standards of performance. For cars we want to know the zero to 60 miles per hour in how many seconds. For soap we want it to be 99 and 44/100 percent pure. For alcoholic beverages it could be how long it has been aged. And on and on.Yet in the stock market we have no hard and fast set of rules by which to judge a company performance. Ah, and there's the rub! No matter how good a com...(related: Stocks)

Again With The Bubbles?
A few years back ? it seems like an eternity today ? the U.S. stock market experienced a severe bubble burst. Legitimate stocks rose beyond reasonable valuations and ideas merely in the germination stage sold for prices far beyond those of real proven companies. When the bubble burst, billions of dollars of shareholder value evaporated. One would have thought we'd learned our lesson.Today, Yahoo and EBay, the two leading internet companies, again sell for prices beyond reasonable value. Again, people seem content to listen to a good story and place unrealistic valuations on companies that have no earnings or real prospects. Google's recent IPO is proof positive that the market is still bubble-icious. Even stocks like General Electric are selling at prices above what the market shou...(related: Stocks)
Buy And Hold Investment Philosophy
Wall Street has been preaching the doctrine of Buy and Hold forever. The worst part about it is the small investor (and some big ones) actually believe it. Brokers and financial planners believe it, but when you show them they can get a better return by timing the market they just say, "It can't be done". They are either lazy or stupid. Most brokers have not learned their trade - investing. Webster says that means putting money into something (stocks) fo...(related: Stocks)

Understanding A Stocks Peg Ratio
A PEG ratio cannot be used alone but is a very powerful tool when integrated with the basics (price, volume and chart reading). You must enjoy crunching numbers and have a calculator handy to estimate your own PEG ratio. Access to quality statistical information from the web such as past earnings and future earning estimates is essential to calculate this fundamental indicator. A variety of websites produce a PEG ratio but I have not found one site that has a reliable PEG ratio that I can use for my own research, so ...(related: Stocks)

Picture one of those clubs where only the real heavyweights need apply. In the library the old aristocrats, General Motors and JP Morgan, are dozing in their leather chairs. At the bar, a number of the"nouveau riche" have gathered - Microsoft seems to be buying for Intel and Hewlett Packard. Welcome to the world of the Large Cap Stock Club, the biggest of the worlds publicly traded companies. For those interested in applying, membership includes a minimum market capitalization of at...(related: Stocks)

The Stock Market Is A Roller Coaster: Prepare For The Ups And Downs
IT'S REMINISCENT OF THE OLD children's tale about an old Chinese farmer who tells his friends his story, and they enjoin with "That's good" or "That's bad" on alternating lines:Farmer: My horse ran away.Friends: That's bad.Farmer: She came back with a majestic stallion by her side.Friends: That's good.Farmer: My son tried to ride the stallion and broke his hip.Friends: That's bad.Farmer: The emperor came through town that week and took every able-bodied young man away to war. My son was spared.Friends: That's good, et cetera.Recent market trends bring this story to mind. On this emotion...(related: Stocks)

Trade Stocks For Real
